Lieutenant Colonel Alton N. Styron II serves as a Senior Military Fellow at the National Defense Wargaming Center (NDWC), National Defense University (NDU), Washington D.C. As a Professional Wargamer and faculty member, Lt Col Styron leverages wargames and experiential learning to foster the critical and creative thinking senior leaders need to tackle today's and tomorrow's strategic challenges. Supporting the Joint Staff, he educates, evaluates, and mentors senior leaders from across the U.S. military, government, and international community, primarily through the five NDU) colleges, as well as select audiences across government and academia.
Prior to his current assignment Nate served at Headquarters Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. In this assignment, he served as the Deputy Director, AFDW A6 before serving as the Director, Commander’s Action Group (CAG). In both capacities, he advised the AFDW 2-Star Commander in support of Air Force missions in the National Capital Region and support to 38,500 military and civilian personnel stationed in 108 countries worldwide.
Throughout his career Lieutenant Colonel Styron has served in a variety of assignments at the squadron, group, and wing levels as well on a joint staff. He deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan in 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
