Ms. Rebecca Sorell joined the Center for Applied Strategic Learning (CASL) as a Military Analyst, Applied Technology, at Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC), NDU’s Norfolk Campus, in February 2014.  Rebecca graduated from Old Dominion University (ODU) with a B.S. in Computer Science and minor in Management.  She earned an M.A. in International Studies from ODU and an M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.  In addition, she obtained a Post-Graduate Certificate in Modeling and Simulation from ODU.  She has also completed several Military Operations Research Society (MORS) Wargaming courses, and maintains Project Management Professional (PMP) and Security+ certifications.

Rebecca served as an Ocean Systems Technician Analyst in the U.S. Navy for six years before completing her B.S. and receiving her commission as a Naval Intelligence officer.  Her military career includes a variety of tours.  She was assigned to the Tactical Support Center, Sigonella, Sicily, as Special Security Officer (SSO) and Intelligence Division Officer, supporting unilateral and multi-national operations in the ongoing war in former Yugoslavia.  At the Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center, she was Course Coordinator and primary instructor for the Counter Drug Intelligence course and the SSO course. She worked for the Defense HUMINT Service as the Operations Officer for a HUMINT Detachment in Stuttgart, Germany.  Subsequently she served as Deputy Intelligence Department Head and Senior Watch Officer at the Fleet Information Warfare Center.  She completed her Navy career as the Intelligence Department Head at the Maritime Force Protection Command.  After retiring from the Navy, she worked as a Department of Defense contractor in several positions, to include Senior Military Analyst, Instructor, and Doctrine Specialist at the U.S. Joint Forces Command and Intelligence Analyst at the Training Brain Operations Center.

As a Joint Exercise Division Military Analyst, Rebecca supports all aspects of exercises for JFSC’s academic programs, including the Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS) and Joint Combined Warfighting School (JCWS), helping maintain and adapt wargame scenarios to meet ongoing and new requirements.  She is also the JFSC Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Lead, representing JFSC in DoD’s WPS Community of Interest.
